Timing Is Everything

I started this company when I was 25, so over the years I’ve learned a few things about timing. The saying ‘timing is everything’ is true, but not always easy for a client or publicist to accept.  We want everything NOW!  If a producer from a big TV show wants your client on next week, but their book comes out in 6 weeks… not good timing.  If you keep pitching a really important media outlet and they keep saying no, then the timing isn’t right… keep trying until that ‘no’ turns into a ‘yes.’  When that yes happens, you will look back and realize now IS was the right time, whereas, a while ago when you started pitching was NOT.   Prime example: For 3 years we pitched Rachael Ray to Oprah and producers kept saying no… it was disheartening, but when the answer was finally YES, not only was it during book tour (score), BUT there was a love fest and the rest is history.  That’s just one of hundreds of stories.  Helps keep the job in perspective.

Rebecca,

Thank you for this. Timing IS everything. I read this exactly when I needed the reminder to be patient yet persistent. Take care!
