5 Questions A PR Firm Should Ask A Potential Client Before Accepting Them

I love this topic because it’s important for a PR firm to only accept clients they believe in. That’s the true recipe for a successful long term relationship.

What are your goals?  This is a key question – PR firms need to make sure that their goals are well thought out, but also realistic.  Also ask how long they feel it should take to achieve these goals.  Make sure everyone is on the same page.

How do you define your brand?  What is its point of difference?  If the individual or company is truly invested in their brand, they will have a clearly defined answer.

Are you looking to build your brand over the long or short term?  If the answer is they want to build it as fast as possible for a short term goal, consider what it will be like working with them.  From experience I can tell you it is not pleasant.

Have you worked with a PR firm in the past?  If yes, tell us what you liked and didn’t like about them.  This is one of my favorites….their answers are very telling.

Who will be our day to day contact?  Just like clients want to know who their contact will be each day, it is just as important for the firm to know who they will deal with.

Have I left any out?  Let us know what you think – we’d love to hear from you.

Love this post, Rebecca. I might add the following (they have helped me a lot in the past when getting to know new clients/talent):
*Whose career and/or publicity do you admire and why?
*What are 5 media placements you would love to get and why?
*What five words do you want consumers to think of when they hear your name?
